This month . . .
Time to tend your garlic! Check your labels — they can fade over time.
Weed your garlic and feed it; a fish emulsion with kelp is a great choice.
March is also time to start your peppers indoors. We have grown out two of our favorites and have seed for you in the CSE library! Stocky Red Roaster is an Italian-type pepper with a great flavor raw or fried, but as the name implies is a great pepper for roasting. It fares well in northern climes, and fruit hold up well after harvest. Lively Orange Pepper is a prolific, juicy, thick-walled pepper also great for roasting, bred by Tom Lively of Eugene, Oregon.
You can also get in a second planting of peas in March. We have Cascadia Sugar Snaps as well as Ho Lan Dow, a dwarf 2.5' snow pea plant that needs minimal trellising.
